BASIC BUCKET HAT

NOTE
: You will be working in the round. Start every round with a CH1 and end with a SLST to the first ST.

SECOND NOTE: This pattern is split into 3 parts. The first part will teach you a basic flat circle pattern, super useful for all sorts of projects!

YARN PLY & HOOK SIZE: 6 ply yarn and 4mm hook makes a 26cm wide and 20cm tall hat. Can be adjusted for chunkier or thinner ply yarns.

ABBREVIATIONS:

ST stitch

CH chain

SC single crochet

HDC half double crochet

INC 2 crochet into 1 Stitch

FLO front loops only

BLO back loops only

Part 1/3 FLAT TOP

Round 1: Make a Magic Ring, or CH6 and SLST to form a ring. 8 HDC into the ring (8)

Round 2: HDC INC in every ST around (16)

Round 3: *HDC into first ST, INC in next ST. Repeat from * around. (24)

Round 4: HDC in first 2 ST, *INC in next ST, HDC in next 2 ST. Repeat from *   around. (32)

Round 5: HDC in first 3 ST, *INC in next ST, HDC in next 3 ST. Repeat from * around. (40)

Round 6: HDC in first 4 ST, *INC in next ST, HDC in next 4 ST. Repeat from * around. (48)

Round 9: HDC in first 7 ST, *INC in next ST, HDC in next 7 ST. Repeat from * around. (72)

This is where you can alter the size of your hat. Continue working in this pattern for a wider hat, or complete less rounds for a smaller hat.

Part 2/3 BODY

Round 10:  SC BLO in each ST around. (72)

Round 11: HDC in each ST around. (72)

Round 12-20: Repeat round 8 (72)

Round 21: SC FLO in each ST around. (72)

You want the body to reach to your eyebrows/bridge of your nose; add rounds for a longer hat, decrease rounds for a shorter hat.

Part 3/3 BRIM

Round 22: HDC in first 4 ST, *INC in next ST, HDC in next 4 ST. Repeat from * around. This will leave 3 ST left over, HDC in all and INC in last. (87)

Round 23: HDC in first 5 ST, *INC in next ST, HDC in next 5 ST. Repeat from * around. This will leave 4 ST left over, HDC in all and INC in last. (102)

Round 24: HDC in first 6 ST, *INC in next ST, HDC in next 6 ST. Repeat from * around. This will leave 5 ST left over, HDC in all and INC in last.  (117)

Round 25: HDC in first 7 ST, *INC in next ST, HDC in next 7 ST. Repeat from * around. This will leave 6 ST left over, HDC in all and INC in last.  (132) CH and fasten off. Weave in ends to finish.

SUPER EASY BEANIE

NOTE: You will require a tapestry needle and basic needle skills for this pattern!

YARN PLY & HOOK SIZE:  One size fits most. A 4mm hook and 8 ply yarn makes a 19cm wide 29cm long (unrolled) beanie. For chunkier/thinner yarn adjust number of starting CH for correct length.

ABBREVIATIONS:

ST stitch

CH chain

DC Double crochet

BLO back loops only

BODY

Row 1: CH 58

Row 2: DC in third CH and in each CH across. Turn work. (55)

Row 3: CH3, DC BLO in every ST across. Turn work. (55)

Row 4: CH3, DC FLO in every ST across. Turn work. (55)

Row 5-33: Repeat rows 3 & 4 alternating.

This is where you can alter the width of your beanie. For a wider beanie simply add rows, or subtract rows for a smaller fit. Measure against your own head as you go if you’re not sure!

Row 43:  Fold swatch in half (good side facing inwards) and line up the first and last rows. CH1, SC in both first and last row ST. Repeat across. This will leave you with a crochet tube.

With your work inside out, thread your tapestry needle with 50cm length of your chosen yarn and knot the end to the top edge of your crochet tube, the second ST of the Row works best. Use a simple and loose running stitch around the entire top edge of the tube, and then pull tight to cinch!

Turn inside out then roll up the bottom edge to finish up!
